Training
- Very chill, felt a little burnt out from the marathon
- 25 mpw peak
- Pinched nerve in upper back a few days before race, almost considered not running
Pre-race
- Small poop at home
- Uber to Jersey City
- Start area was crowded, but more convenient than a NYRR race
- No security, pretty much just rolled up to the corrals
- Morning was a little chilly, throw-away sweater
- Stood on line for porta-potty
- Gun went off
- Stretched my legs, took a caff gel, and got into the crowd
Race
- nice easy start (11/min pace)
- Plan was to increase by 15s every 5k
- Not very interesting for a while
- mostly just fun running
- Regular gel ~35 minutes in
- Nice view of Statue of Liberty through Liberty State Park
- 200mg caff gel ~1:05 in
- Felt very relaxed, held back until 9 miles
- Started pushing, felt strong
- Another gel
- Discomfort in left knee
- Roads kinda bad
- Progressively faster through the end
- Another gel for fun, bad idea
- Hard finish, felt like my speed workouts came in handy here
